| Purpose | MDE has been developing school program locations, both public and nonpublic, since 1998 in coordination with the Land Management Information Center (LMIC, now MnGeo). Charter school locations is an addition to the existing public and nonpublic school database. Since November 2006, MDE has taken ownership of this Charter school dataset. | |||

| Attribute Accuracy | All charter locations were geocoded using either street centerline road files from The Lawrence Group (TLG), U.S. Census TIGER or online at Google maps. Many charter locations have been improved based on: + 2003-2004 and 2006 Farm Service Agency (FSA) aerial photography. + 2004 Metro area NGA + 2006 color aerial photography for the Twin Cities or Ramsey county. |

| Completeness | Only those charter schools identified as part of the Minnesota Department of Education ORG unit database are found in this database. The data is identified by its Unit Type of '7'. It has been noted that many of these locations may be incorrect so the SY2007-08 update cycle will address that issue (August, 2007). |

| Lineage | August, 2005: LMIC was provided a database from MDE-FNS containing charter school addresses. LMIC took this database and initially processed it against the existing Public school database to find duplicates. The remaining locations were geocoded in ArcMAP 9.1 using the most current TLG (The Lawrence Group) street centerline database and U.S. Census TIGER street database. Remaining unmatched addresses were tested online with Google maps and locations were found. A few of the locations have been verified using FSA NAIP aerial photography. All others are unverified and may vary from exact location to centroid of a city or zip code. December 2006: The Department of Education, Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) modified the existing Charter shapefile for additions and deletions. The file has not been verified through a QA/QC analysis. July, 2007: Updated all locations. August, 2008: Updated several new charter schools (#183-192). |

ZIP - 5 digit zipcode. GRADE - Student grade ranges. SDNUM - school district number ranging from 1-Aitkin to 2902-R.T.R. SDNAME - 340 school district names. SOURCE - Source of geocoding.
