Metadata created using Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines
| Originator | Minnesota Department of Education |
| Abstract | The point locations of school district service offices were developed at MDE to complement other school locational information. Many school district offices, or service centers, are located in a current elementary, middle or high school building. Some have their own facility. All locations have been developed and compared to existing school locations or address matched using The Lawrence Group street centerline address files. Unmatched locations were matched through school district websites or Google maps. Some locations may be incorrect as a full QA/QC process has not been completed. |

| Use Constraints | If you obtain data from MDE, it is understood that you and/or your organization have the right to use them for any internal purpose. If you modify them, you should document those changes in a metadata record that should accompany all redistributed data. If you transmit or provide these data in any form to another user, the data MUST be accompanied by a copy of MDE's disclaimer NOTICE.TXT and all documentation provided with the original data set including the full metadata record. |

| Ordering Instructions | 1. GIS data: this data set is distributed on the internet by clicking below after Online Linkage. Doing so will tell your browser to start downloading a self-extracting 'ZIP' file which will contain the following: - Data in shapefile (.shp, .shx., .dbf) format - Documentation (.html) - NOTICE.RTF, an important notice about this data set that can be read by most word processing software, and an ascii text version of the same notice (NOTICE.TXT) After downloading this self-extracting 'zip' file (which will have an 'exe' extension), simply execute (run) the file. (For example, you can double click it from Windows Explorer or File Manager). Doing this will automatically extract the files described above. 2. School district maps: These maps show district and attendance boundaries, and public and non-public school program locations. Download in PDF format or order printed wallmaps from: http://www.gda.state.mn.us/maps/SchoolDistricts/ |

| Purpose | MDE has been in contact with Minnesota school districts since 1998, identifying school program locations. These locations are used by the Minnesota Department of Education to help identify where appropriate funds should be used for that school year. By adding school district service centers, school district maps will have an added value to the districts and MDE. | |||

| Attribute Accuracy | Many school district service centers are located within existing schools. Those locations were found through use of the existing public school locations. Additional district centers were found through use of address matching, locational address matching through Google and Microsoft internet mapping or Farm Service Agency (FSA) 2003-04 aerial photography. A QA/QC process has not been fully completed so some locations may be incorrect due to address match error. | |||
| Logical Consistency | Not applicable | |||
| Completeness | All school districts are complete. Locations will require modification through a QA/QC process. | |||
| Horizontal Positional Accuracy | See Lineage. | |||
| Lineage | This point dataset was initially created in March 2007. Locations were taken from existing public school locations where addresses matched. Where addresses were very close, NAIP 2003-04 aerial photography was used. Additional unmatched sites were either located via the school district website or through Google maps. This dataset has not been through a QA/QC process. |
