Ordering Instructions This data set is distributed on the internet in two ways. Clicking the link under 'Online Linkage' allows you to preview the data and download part or all of the data set in shapefile format. Alternatively, you can download the entire dataset as a shapefile from the LMIC FTP site.

Interactive map download:

When you access the interactive map download site from the 'Online Linkage', this data layer appears in the map box. The interactive map allows you to examine the linework of the data set and its attributes before you decide to download it. You can designate the area you wish to download by drawing a box on the screen with the 'zoom in' tool. Then use the 'download' tool to download the subset of the file to your own machine in ArcView shapefile format. Attribute Accuracy Unknown.
Logical Consistency N/A
Completeness Data provides complete coverage match for the entire database available from Minnesota Department of Health, Health Care Facility and Provider Database, 2/20/2003.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy The hospitals were located by geocoding the hospital records from the Health Care Facility and Provider Database using Tiger/Line 2002 files from the U.S. Bureau of the Census.

HOSPITALS - 141 hospitals

Matched with score 80 - 100: 114 (81%)
Matched with score <80: 27 (19%)
Unmatched: 0 (0%)

Matched with candidates tied: 7 (5%)

Accuracy of locations not guaranteed.

Each record has the following fields to describe the records match to the source file:

STATUS -The status of the geocoded address (whether it was matched or not)
SCORE -The score with which the address was matched to a feature in the reference data
SIDE - The side of the street to which the address was matched (for geocoding service styles that can match an address to a particular side of a street)
Vertical Positional Accuracy Not applicable
Lineage Data Sources:
1 - Minnesota Department of Health, Health Care Facility and Provider Database, hospitals only. http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fpc/directory/fpcdir.html
2 - Census TIGER/Line 2002 roads. This represents the roads at the time of the Census (April 2000).

Processing steps:
The Minnesota Department of Health, Health Care Facility and Provider Database hospital locations were selected from the database (HOSP_BEDS > 0) to create a separate file.

The hospital records were automatically matched to the TIGER 2002 roads. Approximately 80% matched with a match score of 60 or better. Interactively another 10% matched with slight modifications. The remaining 10% was matched using the help of other online locators, such as Mapquest.com to identify their locations.
