Metadata Summary

Originator Minnesota Land Management Information Center (LMIC)
Abstract Metro30 is a data collection consisting of approximately 150 raster-formatted data layers for the 7-county Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. It is available on CD-ROM in EPPL7 format. The data themes cover a wide range of physical and biological variables along with administrative, political, sociodemographic, and transportation data.

Most data on the Metro30 data collection has been gridded at a 30-meter cell size from vector linework of varying scales. Some data layers were created from the MGC100 100-meter statewide data set by clipping the statewide file to the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area border, then resampling the data to the 30-meter level. However, this processing step does not improve the original accuracy of the data. The Metro30 Dataset is available on the same CD as the MGC100 statewide 100-meter dataset.

Lineage Most of the data layers on the Metro30 Dataset were created by clipping vector data files to a 7-county metro site mask, then gridding the vector data using a 30-meter grid cell size. The source vector data files came from a number of sources. Scale of the source materials varies. In some cases, the pedigree file attached to each data layer includes more information about the source data layer and the processing steps needed to convert to the Metro30 data format.

Some data layers were created by masking MGC100 Statewide 100-meter grid datasets to the 7-county metro site mask, then resampling the 100-meter grid to create a 30-meter grid. Since the original resolution of the data could not be improved by this process, data created in this manner retains the characteristics of the original 100-meter or 40-acre resolution.. More extensive information on how the original MGC100 data sets were created is available in the MGC100 metadata.
