Metadata created using Minnesota Geographic Metadata Guidelines
| Originator | U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Farm Services Agency, Aerial Photography Field Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District |
| Abstract | This data set contains photographic information obtained for the National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP) and is comprised of scanned photographs that were acquired with a precision aerial mapping camera at a nominal scale of 1:40,000 on color positive film. Acquisition was leaf-on with mature crops prior to harvest. Images have been orthorectified. NAIP imagery is quarter-quadrangle centered to provide consistent and repeatable coverage. The original imagery is in GeoTIFF format. Two MrSID versions are also available, developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District for the USDA - Farm Services Agency. One version has one MrSID file per quarter-quad; the other version has one or several MrSID files per county and was created by mosaicking the quarter-quads together. |
| Browse Graphic | View a sample of the data. |
| Time Period of Content Date | 2002 |
| Currentness Reference | June 2002 through August 2002. Each quarter-quadrangle image filename includes the date on which the photo was taken. The metadata records that accompany each MrSID county mosaic file contain a range of dates for that county. |
| Access Constraints | None |
| Use Constraints | The Aerial Photography Field Office asks to be credited in derived products. Credit should also be given to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District for creating the MrSID versions. DNR's Distribution Conditions: If downloading data from DNR's Data Deli, you will need to accept DNR's General Geographic Data License Agreement. LMIC's Redistribution Conditions: If you obtain data from LMIC, it is understood that you and/or your organization have the right to use them for any internal purpose. Contact information is at the FSA's Office Information Locator: http://oip.usda.gov/scripts/ndisapi.dll/oip_agency/index?state=US&agency=FSA or check the blue government pages of the local phone book. Note: A sample NAIP2002 GeoTIFF photo (77 mb, zipped) is posted at: ftp://ftp.lmic.state.mn.us/pub/data/remote_sensing/naip/pickwick_sw_naip02.zip . It covers the Pickwick SW quarter-quad in Winona County, an area in southeastern Minnesota that has high topographic relief. The GeoTIFF file (4309105_SW_20020808.TIF) is accompanied by a header record (.TFW) and a metadata record for that specific photo. |

| Vertical Positional Accuracy | N/A | |||
| Lineage | Steps to produce the original NAIP 2002 imagery (Farm Services Agency): The 1:40,000 color aerial photography film was used to produce a 1-meter ground sample distance image. The scanned images were ortho (differentially) rectified using U.S. Geological Survey 30-meter DEMs (digital elevation models), aero-triangulation and control from airborne GPS supplemented with photo-identifiable points from 1991-2 USGS digital orthophoto quads (DOQs) that had been mosaicked and compressed by USDA FSA. Horizontal accuracy specifications required that 90% of well defined test points on the ortho-rectified image match within 3 meters the same points on the mosaicked DOQs. Steps to produce the MrSID files (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - St. Paul District): 1. Copy GeoTIFF image files from FSA CDs to hard-drive. 2. Change file permissions (read/write). Use Lizardtech's MrSID Workstation version 1.5 to create MrSID files as follows: Quarter-quadrangle version: 3. Use the following MrSID compression options a. Advanced Image Enhancement G-Weight - 2 Weight - 2 b. Encode Settings Encoding Ratio 20:1 Zoom Level 9 Target Thumbnail 20 Pixels Block Size 512 4. Compress all original FSA TIFF files into individual MrSID images 5. Assign Projection/Datum to images (ESRI VBA Script) County mosaic version: 6. Using original FSA TIFF files, generate MrSID mosaic 7. Use naming convention 'fsa_countyname_mosaic_2002.sid' 8. MrSID compression options: (Same as above except as noted below) a. No Data X input No Data 255 255 255 Y Input No Data 255 255 255 9. Assign Projection/Datum to mosaic (ESRI VBA Script) |
