Metadata Summary

Originator Department of Natural Resources, Division of Lands and Minerals, Mineral Potential Section
Abstract This dataset consists of information about the aggregate potential in Sherburne County. This map is based on the Aggregate Resource Mapping of M.T. Eng and M.P. Katsoulis, July 1987, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Minerals, in cooperation with the Minnesota Geological Survey, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the State Planning Agency. In 2001, the map was scanned, rectified, digitized, and captured into a digital format to allow its incorporation into the current County Mapping Program.

An additional bedrock outcrop area was added in 2001, based on information presented on Preliminary Bedrock Geologic Map of East-Central Minnesota, by M.A. Jirsa and V.W. Chandler, 1995, Minnesota Geological Survey Open-File Report 95-1, scale 1:100,000.

Attribute Accuracy
Logical Consistency Overshoots and undershoots were fixed by a variety of techniques, thus the lines have been checked and completed.
Completeness The aggregate resource potential was identified through traditional geological mapping techniques, combining air photo interpretation, field work, and identification of existing gravel pits.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy 1:50000
Vertical Positional Accuracy Not applicable.
Lineage This map is based on the Aggregate Resource Mapping of M.T. Eng and M.P. Katsoulis, July 1987, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Minerals, in cooperation with the Minnesota Geological Survey, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and the State Planning Agency. This mapping was done using a MN DOT county highway map at 1 inch:1 mile (1:63360) as the basemap for the county. The final product included several mylar overlays registered to this basemap.

In 2001, the mylar overlays were scanned and rectified. This scanned version served as a backdrop for onscreen digitizing, which allowed the information to be captured into a digital (i.e., vector) format and allowed it to be included in the County Aggregate Resource Mapping Program.
