| Lineage | Call volume data was collected for the east central service area, spanning a timeframe of January to July 2005. The data was in an excel spreadsheet, with the volume (total number) of calls listed for each telephone prefix. Since telephone prefixes did not seem to be available as a geographic shapefile, zipcode boundaries were utilized as a boundary for this purpose. A list of zip codes and corresponding telephone prefixes was obtained. While it is recognized that there is not an exact match between these boundaries (prefixes and zips) it is expected to be close enough for the type of analysis requested. Zip code boundaries were selected and in some cases modified or edited via Union, Merge, etc. to produce an output polygon shapefile depicting the approximated telephone prefix areas. |
