To complement the U.S. National Grid (USNG) method for defining location, a standardized system for marking locations with USNG coordinates is being considered -- it would be used when and where appropriate and desired.

The proposal has been developed by the Emergency Preparedness Committee of the Minnesota Governor’s Council on Geographic Information after discussion with experts within and outside of the state.

The public review period runs through December 15, 2009.
